A Tlaquepaque Cultural Experience!

There is going to be a Fiesta at Tlaquepaque! Prepare to be dazzled by the upcoming Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, Saturday, May 5th 2018. For over 45 years the Arts and Crafts Village of Tlaquepaque -- meaning the “the best of everything” -- has been the epicenter of Sedona’s art, entertainment and cultural celebrations. Tlaquepaque’s fiestas, events and parties are great family fun, and this year is no exception. Savor fabulous Mexican dishes, enjoy the beats of world-class musicians, take in high-energy folklórico dancers and participate in "The Great Sedona Chili Cook Off." Admission is free.

Cinco de Mayo is about celebrating an historically significant event in Mexican history leading to Mexican Independence. "We love to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Tlaquepaque. It's a great way to learn about the rich history and culture of Mexico through the arts and have a lot of fun in the process," says Wendy Lippman, resident partner and general manager of Tlaquepaque.

Ritmo Latino featuring Andres Martinez enchants its listener with the sensuous sounds of South America. Acoustic guitar, the romance of the saxophone, the sultry sounds of Latin percussion, and the beautiful vocals of Andres Martinez evoke the hypnotic rhythms of Latin America. In Patio de Las Campanas, performing from 11:00 am to 2:00 p.m.

For pure exhilaration, gather for the vibrantly colorful and exquisitely costumed dancers from Ballet Folkorico de Colores. When they dance they tell many stories encompassing not only the rituals and dramatic events that form Mexico’s past but colorful depictions of Mexico’s diverse culture and folklore. The group founders have over 28 years of dancing experience travelling all over the US. Members make most of the group’s traditional costumes and vibrant hair pieces. They will perform at 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00 pm in Plaza de La Fuente.

Of course the crowd pleasing mariachis will perform both at Tlaquepaque North and Tlaquepaque South from 11:00 to 3 p.m. If that isn't enough entertainment and music to get you off the couch, there will be performances by Mosaico Flamenco featuring Gaetano as well as the local favorite Eric Miller playing flamenco guitar.

Tlaquepaque is proud to sponsor the Eighth Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off in Calle Independencia, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm as part of the day. Admission is $15, and children under ten are free. Presented by the Rotary Club of Sedona, funds from the event support a variety of international and local service projects including Rotary International’s “End Polio Now” campaign and the Rotary Club of Sedona’s Imagination Library. Competition has been building as local chefs have been testing, tasting and prepping for the big day. Following the tastings, awards will be announced at 4:00 pm , including the “People’s Choice Award” voted on by the hundreds of people who attend, and the “Judges Award,” chosen by a distinguished panel of chili enthusiasts selected by Rotary Club of Sedona. Come ready for some seriously good chili tasting, and vote for your favorite! Let the games begin!

May 5th at Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village is sure to be a day of fun! As always, Tlaquepaque's world class boutique shops and galleries will be open and awaiting your perusal. If you haven't been to the village in a while you will always find fresh new art in myriad forms from fine art paintings, sculpture, photography, jewelry and urban chic decor ...and so much more. Plan to stay awhile and soak up all the merriment.

We encourage all to park off site at the municipal parking lot in Uptown Sedona and take the free trolley to the party. Check our website for the most current updated schedule of events and times as well as off site parking information.

We ask that you check our website at tlaq.com/events before October 27 to monitor updates. Events at Tlaquepaque are made all the more memorable by the event planning and food the guests enjoy. Whether attending an engagement party or wedding, the beauty of Tlaquepaque’s architecture and grounds is enhanced when the guest’s culinary experience is as artful and delightful as the surroundings. Here are a couple of our exclusive vendors who make that possible.

Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village has provided the perfect setting for south of the border fiestas, festivals, and cultural extravaganzas for the last four decades. Unfortunately, this year we are dealing with the unprecedented COVID pandemic and must pause our highly attended Day of the Dead celebration. There's good news though! Our annual Marigold Mural project is back this year with a NEW SAFE AND EXCITING FORMAT. Join us on Wednesday, November 4 through Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Calle Independencia. This project is unique to Tlaquepaque and an artful way to remember your loved ones. The artist Lovejoy will be in attendance again this year, handing out markers as she guides and answers questions regarding the mural and your contributions. Face masks and sanitizer will also be available for those who need them.

The Micro-Wedding Plan a bite-sized version of a traditional wedding and celebrate with 50 or fewer of your closest friends and family. Usually, a shorter timeline (3 hours instead of 5), these intimate events still include a ceremony and celebration with flowers, cake, music, and more, and can be designed to your liking. Bonuses: More time to spend with each of your guests A more affordable solution or an opportunity to allocate money to the things you care about the most (you no longer have 150 people coming, so you can spend more money on your dress!) Less to plan and manage which can mean less stress For the eco-conscious, a smaller carbon footprint
