Cinco de Mayo Celebration 2024

Apr 25, 2024

GET READY TO CELEBRATE
SATURDAY, MAY 4
11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Cinco de Mayo -- which translates to the Fifth of May - marks Mexico's surprise 1862 victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican war and its eventual independence.

A FREE event for the whole family. Get ready for enthralling Flamenco music and dancing performed by Gaetano Mosaico Flamenco. Be wowed by the talented dancers of Ballet Folklorico de Colores, a dance troupe of all ages, twirling and swirling in vibrantly colorful, time-honored costumes. When they dance, they tell stories of the rituals and dramatic events from Mexico's past. Enjoy the voices of traditional vocalists ringing out throughout the village, and stroll alongside the roaming Mariachi. Activities for children include face painting and the highly anticipated breaking of the pinata. Traditional Mexican dishes and treats will also be available for purchase from local vendors.

Although formally trained with jazz and classical music degrees, his melodic style has always been influenced by the sounds of the Hawaiian slack key guitar..

Eric Miller — 3:30 PM - 5 PM

Eric Miller is a romantic Latin guitarist and a local favorite! After traveling throughout France, Italy, England, Ireland, and Brazil – Eric learned each nation's beautiful music. It was when he arrived in Spain that he fell in love with the art of flamenco. His passion for flamenco guitar stayed with him when Eric returned to the United States, where he continued to study and perform. Eventually, he was drawn to the music of Brazil and immersed himself in the bossa nova and samba, adding Brazilian Jazz guitar to his ever-growing World Music repertoire.

Events at Tlaquepaque are made all the more memorable by the event planning and food the guests enjoy. Whether attending an engagement party or wedding, the beauty of Tlaquepaque’s architecture and grounds is enhanced when the guest’s culinary experience is as artful and delightful as the surroundings. Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village has provided the perfect setting for south of the border fiestas, festivals, and cultural extravaganzas for the last four decades. Unfortunately, this year we are dealing with the unprecedented COVID pandemic and must pause our highly attended Day of the Dead celebration. There's good news though! Our annual Marigold Mural project is back this year with a NEW SAFE AND EXCITING FORMAT. Join us on Wednesday, November 4 through Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Calle Independencia. This project is unique to Tlaquepaque and an artful way to remember your loved ones. The artist Lovejoy will be in attendance again this year, handing out markers as she guides and answers questions regarding the mural and your contributions. Face masks and sanitizer will also be available for those who need them.

The Micro-Wedding Plan a bite-sized version of a traditional wedding and celebrate with 50 or fewer of your closest friends and family. Usually, a shorter timeline (3 hours instead of 5), these intimate events still include a ceremony and celebration with flowers, cake, music, and more, and can be designed to your liking. Bonuses: More time to spend with each of your guests A more affordable solution or an opportunity to allocate money to the things you care about the most (you no longer have 150 people coming, so you can spend more money on your dress!) Less to plan and manage which can mean less stress For the eco-conscious, a smaller carbon footprint
